City of Catacombs
once called Sa’anthar, this was one of the most marvelous cities of the Elves of Spring. Its construction was allowed by Aristar, as a reward for help provided against the Skyrians. However, shortly before the Second Tearing a mysterious plague struck the whole area surrounding it, killing thousands. When the plague stopped, the elves did not make any effort to reclaim the city, just content to – together with the Wardens of the Silent Tomb – bury the dead whose bodies were left in the city. Soon after the Second Tearing occurred, Skyrians launched a massive invasion, trying to claim the city and its vast resources of corpses – only to be stopped by combined efforts of the Wardens and a cabal of necromancers calling themselves the Nesherii.
Now the Nesherii hold the place, protecting it both from the Skyrians, Cannaran and the more fanatical Wardens. The mages offer free burial for everyone, believing that they are best equipped to protect bodies from practices of other necromancers. Since the Nesherii also make use of mindless undead, the Wardens view them with suspicion fearing that all this is a ploy to create an army of their own. The very proximity of the City to the Death Shroud also makes it a nexus of necromantic energies – a fact that is not overlooked by anyone.
